Corridor Store Front, 1994/2002

Corridor Store Front was created by Christo (1935, Gabrowo) in 1967 and installed the following year at documenta 4 in Kassel. It combines several features from the art of the era, particularly in its questions about the commercial future of art and its use of materials seen in Minimal art. Yet it was also a way for the artist to link his work to the history of modernism by using one of his old motifs: the store front, employed by Eugène Atget, Marcel Duchamp, Claes Oldenburg, and Andy Warhol, to name but a few. Corridor Store Front was installed when MAMCO opened in 1994. In 2002, it also exhibited some preparatory drawings, and designs for other Christo’s projects.
