Music, especially in its performative dimension, takes up a great place in the work of Christian Marclay (*1955). Inspired from the children’s game of the same name, the artist has created the installa­tion "Musical Chairs" suggesting the idea of sound and movement. This twofold evocation can also be found in the choice of fabrics covering the seats of the chairs which, in an allusion to music, are like a series of scores to be played. Faced by such a silent orchestra, the potential activation of this installation is made visible, while clearly recalling some of Georges Brecht’s Events, hence the close­ness of Christian Marclay’s work to the explorations of the Ecart group.
