With a dozen paintings in three rooms of the first floor, the exhibition of work Olivier Mosset (1944, Bern) followed the evolution of his oeuvre. It included the circles and stripes of the BMPT (Buren, Mosset, Parmentier, and Toroni) period, and his monochromes of 1977 to 1986, as well 
as his “abstract compositions,” particularly the bichromes, from the late 1980s. Since the dissolution of the BMPT group, Mosset has continued to focus on the theme that had united the four painters: revealing the “truth” of painting through its deconstruction. He defines painting as “color applied to a canvas,” the purpose of which is 
to provoke a specific reaction in the viewer. “Ultimately,” Mosset says, “art is in the eye of the beholder … it’s other people who make the work.” And if the truth of art is provided by the viewer as much as it is by the artist’s efforts, then an abstract painting and a readymade have the same status.
